The birth of a nation: its founders according to the brush of Amaury Palacio

Until next January 9th the public can live a unique aesthetic experience thanks to the pictorial work of Amaury Palacio Puebla through the exhibition “Genesis and Myths”, inaugurated on the occasion of the second anniversary of the reopening of the headquarters of the Literary Artistic Lyceum of La Havana, under the auspices of the National Council of Cultural Heritage, Bologna Editions and the Office of the Historian.

The exhibition consists of 13 sketches made in oil on canvas, ranging between dimensions of 40 x 30 cm up to 55 x 80 cm. In these, the artist based in Bayamo, honors men and women who inscribed their name in the homeland history when possible his birth, with the independents cry of October, 10th, 1868.

In the words of Eusebio Leal: “Skill and mastery combine to offer a totally credible profile of these tutelary figures who, belonging by natural logic to a time already remote, survive in our imaginary and daily task, because they embody the thought that shaped the invisible soul of Cuba.

“While Diana Iglesias Aguilar points out “the attachment to accurate pictorial techniques of the masters of the European baroque “, in characters that” speak to us of anxieties and fears, of passions and longings not confirmed “.

The loose brushstroke, the careful composition and, above all, the reflection of the psychology of the characters, mark the work of this creator, specialist and lover of the portrait, who not only honored our patriots, but he paid tribute to Diego Velázquez and, in his figure, to painting and to art itself.
