Continuity of the Rivers in art salon

The event is based on the synergy generated by the Intermittent Rivers project at the XIII Havana Biennial.

The XXV edition of the Provincial Salon of Contemporary Art “Roberto Diago Querol” was inaugurated this March 6th “Pedro Esquerré” gallery of Matanzas city.

As generally happens in this type of event, the confluence of artistic forms, together with the diversity of visual discourses with different aesthetic concepts and the visual dramaturgies of each work are present in the same space.

Different generations of artists converge on this occasion; Among those are: Lorenzo Padilla, Julio César García, Daniel Rodríguez, Alejandro Baró, Adrián Socorro, Adriana Riera and Eddy Hernández.

The particularities of each of his pieces impregnate a very identifying seal to each of them.

Lorenzo Padilla offers a symbiosis of abstract and figurative elements with an impressive color load and in which the strong line of the straight line is one of the most significant elements in the composition; not to mention for a moment the references to the symbology of Afro-Cuban beliefs and traditions.

With “Puzzles” (vinyl on PVC, 120 cm x 80 cm) Julio César shows his dominance of the photographic image to offer us from a very unique vision the political, social, cultural and economic relationship of two nations (Cuba and the United States) with a conflict of interest that goes back more than 200 years of history. A frame that through childhood innocence reflects a reality told in different ways from both parts of the Florida Strait. Winning work of the Codema Prize.

The collage is again present in this room with the piece “Dream Passion” (200 cm x 100 cm) by Daniel Rodríguez. A mixture of visual and tactile textures achieved by employment in addition to oil on canvas, and based on figuration through the self-portrait for the construction of discourse. A piece that is part of the new series that the young creator is making.

The kaleidoscopic cosmovision of Alejandro Baró is also part of the artistic proposals of this event. For this, the young creator presents one of the frames of the series “Excombros” (90 x 150 cm), in which he proposes a unique look from the codes of photography to the universe of architecture; capable of extrapolating ourselves to parallel universes in a transit from reality “to fiction” and vice versa; which earned him the award of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Property.

On the other hand, the excellent and well-achieved acrylic fillings on canvas in a perfect use of the spatula can be seen in “The Dead Christ, but Happy of My Grandfather” by Adrián Socorro. A work in which its author proposes us as on other occasions to the human figure as leitmotif of his compositions.

While Adriana Riera opted for the work “Absence”, with the use of digital photography as a creative technique.

The living room is a space for the promotion of contemporary Cuban and Matanzas art that performs during these visual times and will be open to the public until April 20th.

Lorenzo Padilla: “I do not imitate anyone, I am inspired”

Considered as an important representative of twentieth-century Cuban painting, the creator returns to his hometown.

Known to some, unknown to others; a man with a cadenious step and a look that seems to be lost on the horizon splashes the streets of the Matanzas city until he reaches his studio in the historic center of the city, his name Lorenzo Padilla.

With a long artistic career; which covers almost 70 years of uninterrupted work; their first pieces take up those years of studies at the Tarascó Academy until the last ones made in his study recently.

His work is characterized by the coexistence generally of figurative and abstract elements interchangeably, the strong line of the line as an element, not only from the compositional point of view but as a motive and protagonist of the scene; the allegorical elements to the mythical, religious, the enigmatic; in symbiosis to a varied color palette accentuated by the exquisite use of light and its opposite face: the shadow.

During his long professional career he coexisted in the France of Wilfredo Lam and Agustín Cárdenas. Two of his major projects became possible: the first, with the creation of an art museum in the city, which houses one of the most important collections of African art worldwide; on the other side a space that helps the most needy artists: the foundation that bears his name.

In 2018 Padilla left the nation to host him since the 1960`s, France, to settle permanently in the city that saw him born in 1931; as he has expressed on one occasion with the desire to leave the earthly plane with a brush in his hand.

Guest artist of honor at the XIII Havana Biennial based in the city of Matanzas through the project “Intermittent Rivers”, a selection of his work can be appreciated from this month in the art community of Artecru as well as on the website of its foundation www.fondationlorenzopadilla.org

Visual speeches from various points of view

The worldview of contemporary creators in the same artistic community.

A collective exhibition in which a multiplicity of creative forms converges that begins in the installation, covers the academic and culminates in symbiosis with contemporary codes.

Some conceptual elements of Art Povera are combined with other traditional ones, not only from the discourse but also from the support and the techniques used from the worldview of each creator.

Points of views from a creative community

Contemporary creators come together in the same exhibition space.

Various visual languages, the confluence of feelings and the need to express what one feels, what one wants and what one perceives. A multiciplicity of worldviews that combine in a family relationship between creators, public and works; some of the arguments of “Points of view” result.

Collective exhibition that opens its doors in the Art Gallery of the Office of the Conservator of the city of Matanzas and that brings together an entire artistic community (Artecru) that strengthens links not only from the visual arts through each work exhibited but also between its authors

“Points of view” covers a whole path that goes from installation, sculpture to academic painting, the material in symbiosis with the canvas, oil and palette knife; juxtaposition of conceptual elements perhaps ordinary for some and sacralized for others, abstraction in harmony with figuration; and thus a consecutive series of closely connected pictorial scenes.

The pictorial dramaturgy proposed on this occasion “may be a cause for incitement and debate for some, but it is a catalyst for diverse concerns and visions,” according to art historian Carlos R. Escala Fernández.

The exhibition has an eclectic musicology; reflected in each piece that tells a story that began from the dream of each creator.

The meetings points come together merge under one look and in a single space. The audience attending the show will be the one with the last word.

Dorian Agüero Anaya: satirical discourse in social spaces

He offers a panorama of the surrounding world with a strong load of irony.

Figurative characters that intermingle between reality and fiction. Almost the same protagonist in his compositions (cows and bulls that can be part of any rural scenario), the subliminal criticism of a society and its various modes of behavior and instincts, are some of Dorian Daniel Agüero Anaya‘s proposals.

Young creator, graduated from the University of the Arts of Havana; their accomplishments can be appreciated both in private collections and in some of the main contests of contemporary art inside and outside Cuba.

Possessing an attractive, critical, suspicious and totally affordable visual discourse for a wide variety of audiences, since this month a selection of their works can be found in the creative community of Artecru.
